We are recruiting!
Front-of-House Administrator
We are looking for a Front-of-House Administrator to join our team. We’re a team of rangers focussed mainly on the ‘field’ work, caring for animals and their wild habitat. As an administrator you would be helping to cover our 7-days work week, usually 8-to-5 but sometimes an earlier start/ later finish.
About you
Do you love administration, people, and animals? Do you thrive on routines, but you easily accommodate interruptions without losing sight of your priorities? Are you tidy and enjoy cleaning? Will you be happy to be inside most of the time, but will come to work with your boots on prepared to help wherever you’re needed?
About the job
You would usually be on “front of house” greeting visitors, ordering supplies, serving in the gift shop, answering emails, and doing administration. But you may be called on to clean a guests’ cabin, chop food for the animals, help clear debris from the tracks after a storm, and then jump back onto the front desk.
What this job is (and isn’t)
This is not a job where you get quiet times to just relax. When it’s quiet, there is so much waiting to get done. It’s not just about greeting guests and talking to visitors. We’re a complex business with lots of administration that we need to be on top of. Licensing requirements, stock management, processing volunteer applications, responding to queries, updating information signs. Oh yes, and cleaning. There is NEVER nothing to do.
What our team needs from you
We need you to be very organised as, despite the variety of the job, everything has to get done. We need you to be good at planning ahead for busy times (long weekends and holidays) and quiet times. We need you to be a great communicator, written and in conversation, as you will be the face of our organisation. And we need you to be a ‘team player’. We all help each other, wherever the work-pressure is on any day. It’s not unusual for a ranger to help on Front-of-House, or for an administrator to help the rangers.
A little bit about Walkabout
We are a sanctuary for rescued wildlife needing lifetime care, and breed-for-release rewilding programs for endangered animals. We are on Heritage listed Aboriginal Cultural landscape with ancient sites dating back more than 4,000 years.

We are sorry, but we can only accept email applications. We cannot respond to ‘messenger’ and phone enquiries. It may take up to 10 days for us to respond to your application.
