A Wild Night Out where the Wild Things are…
An evening tour is a great way to meet the animals and experience their natural bush home.
An evening tour is a great way to meet the animals and experience their natural bush home.
Instead, they are what we call “crepuscular”. This means they sleep in the day AND the night, and they are active at dusk and dawn. So the best time to see them out and about is just after sunset.
The Australian bush puts on an entrancing display of wild nature after dark. Bring a torch / flashlight and follow your ranger on a spotlighting walkabout adventure tour. Meet Walkabout Park’s friendly furry and scaly and spiky residents, play tug of war with the devils, and use your flashlight to spy on the wildlife in the trees and undergrowth.
2 hours. One hour before sunset and one hour after sunset.
Minimum of 4 guests.

This tour is ranger-led and incorporates animal encounters and spotlighting. It is designed for all ages.
Meet Walkabout Wildlife Sanctuary’s friendly resident animals, then go spotlighting to spy on the animals as the bush comes alive at dusk. Play tug of war with the Tasmanian devils. Get up close and hands-on with Australia’s weird and wonderful wildlife.
(For overnight guests only, after the tour ends, weather permitting, there may be a campfire for an hour before bed time).
When you arrive, please walk up to to reception to check-in. You will be given a map and some easy-to-follow safety information to keep you and the animals safe. This animal safety information is vital as you will be stepping into the animals’ world. Our animals live semi-wild, so the “rules” are very different to those that would apply if you were visiting a zoo.
Once you have the safety information and your map, you can enter the wildlife sanctuary and meet the animals.
Return to the veranda at the Visitor Centre 5 minutes before your tour is due to start. Your ranger will meet you there.
There is no minimum age, but there must be at least one responsible adult over the age of 18 for every 3 children in your group e.g. if you have 4 children, you will need 2 adults.
Please do not bring alcohol onto the premises.
Follow your rangers’ instructions.
Adults must supervise the children in their care at all times and ensure children behave considerately towards people and animals, follow the directions of the rangers, and comply with all Walkabout Park rules. Please consider other guests’ enjoyment and make sure that your children are not noisy or disruptive. If you have a crying or distressed child or baby, please step away from the group until they settle.
Visitors engaging in dangerous or inconsiderate behaviour will be required to leave in which case there will be no refund.

Especially in autumn/winter, you will need a warm jacket.
Rain jacket ‘just in case’ (this is an all-weather adventure, and it can rain at any time of the year).
If you want to have dinner in the sanctuary before your tour, bring a picnic dinner that is easy and quick to prepare and enjoy as, to be fair to all guests, your tour will start at the scheduled time and your ranger won’t be able to wait for stragglers. BBQ’s are NOT available unless you are staying overnight.
You can buy soft drinks and snacks in the shop before your tour starts (the shop will close 10 minutes before your tour begins).
If you need anything from the shop at the visitor centre at the end of your tour, tell your ranger who can assist you.

This is an all-weather event so we usually go ahead in the rain. However, if Walkabout Wildlife Sanctuary believes the weather or other conditions may be unsafe for people or animals, we will cancel a booking. Whenever possible, you will be contacted in advance so it is important that you give us contact details that we can use to reach you right up until the time of your arrival. If we cancel your booking you will be given the option of either rescheduling to another date, or receiving a full refund. In the event of bad weather and if you have not heard from us, please call (02) 4375 1100 before 11am on the day of your booking to find out whether the program is going ahead. Note, cancellation due to weather is extremely unlikely as this is an all-weather event, so bring your rain gear as the rain just adds another dimension of fun to the experience.
