Walkabout Park has everything for a great day out. Protecting threatened and endangered species, teaching people about why conservation is importants, protecting Aboriginal sites, learning indigenous lessons from the bush, and saving the planet and for the next generation.

Whatever Your Fitness Level

Choose your experience. You can go on a Walkabout Workshop, or you may prefer to have your ranger bring your experience to you while you relax at the Visitor Centre. With your choice of a walk along the bush tracks, or relaxing at a table on the veranda, or a gently stroll with the frienldy animals, you pick your pace.

Wildlife Workshops

Australia Walkabout Wildlife Park’s 170 acres of protected bushland includes a wonderful 80 acre animal sanctuary where all of our local indigenous wildlife lives safe from foxes, wild dogs and cats.

For a special experience, book a ranger-led wildlife workshop where you can meet the furry, scaly, feathery and spiky residents of Walkabout Park. Free-ranging kangaroos, wallabies and emus. Dingoes, wombats, flying foxes, bilbies, koalas, tiger quolls and Tasmanian devils safe and happy in their natural habitat camps. Reptiles of all kinds, with and without legs. Wild frogs and turtles in the ponds. In the warmer weather you can see goannas, lizards and other fascinating reptiles at home in the bush. The shyer animals you just might see, especially on an evening visit, include sugar gliders, bandicoots and bettongs.

Aboriginal Culture

This environmental sanctuary is in Darkinjung and Guringai country, the Aboriginal people who inhabited this part of NSW on the border between the northern rim of Sydney and the southern edge of the Central Coast.

You can book a guided interpretive tour to visit Walkabout Park’s fascinating ancient Aboriginal art and shelter sites, or go on a bush tucker and bush medicine walkabout workshop, or learn about Aboriginal tools, or throw a boomerang and sound the bullroarer. Let your ranger take you on a journey through history as we show you some of the many highlights of our Aboriginal and natural heritage.

Birdlife

You will be greeted on arrival by the tame Sulphur-crested cockatoos Dexter, Joe and Sammy, playing in the trees around the visitor centre.

You will see kookaburras, tawny frogmouths and a whole lot more of Australia’s beautful winged creatures. You will even see threatened species like the glossy black cockatoos and gang gangs, and large flocks of yellow tailed black cockatoos flying overhead in the morning and late afternoon. Then of course there are the early morning visits from the ever entertaining rainbow lorikeets and double barred, or masked, finches, and the New Holland honey eaters.
